WORX GT WG151.5 18-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger

WORX GT WG151.5 18-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger Review

after pondering for about a year after seeing the infomercial I decided to buy it. The main selling point was its light weight, battery operated and the wheeled edger. After using it for about 2 months I am very satisfied with this baby. The other reviewesr point out that it is not very powerful. I would agree but it is powerful enough for my needs and I love its versatility and that it does not kill my shoulder plus it is very quite. I love that I can recharge the battery in 30 min. First I was not sure that was a big deal but I recommend you spend the extra $ and get it with the fast charger. I am also very surprised that the helix sting cuts that well and last that long. With my black and decker I was using like 10 feet every time I cut my lawn while the worx has used probably about 1 or 2 feet instead. Its design it is also very stylish. I love the wheels on the edger. You do need to go back and forward in those places where the edge is high but other than that it does a good job. I hope it lasts me for 5+ years at least. As long as you are not expecting professional looking results and have less that 1/3 acre site then you will be very happy with it. I also go the blower and trimer. For extra bucks I said: why not? I will review those in their respective categories.

Best trimmer/EDGER ever - Grandpa Jim - St. Louis
I couldn't be more pleased with the Worx trimmer/edger. I have trimmed my yard 4 times so far without changing the spool once. I have also trimmed and edged the neighbors lawn once and he also purchased the Worx trimmer. I do recommend the purchase of a second battery as the one lasts about 25 minutes. I would strongly recommend this trimmer and to this point can't understand the negative feedback I saw before I purchased it. The edger in particular is great.

The TRUTH about battery life: 1.3AH = 1300mah = WEAK SAUCE!! - NeoEngineer -
I love everything about this trimmer except for one thing...the WEAK SAUCE battery!

1.3AH = 1300mah

How much capacity is 1300 mah? Well, if you look at the average Energizer AA rechargeable you can buy from Walmart, it's a whopping 2400mah!! Yes, almost double the capacity! How long can you go on 1300mah? Not very long at all. These are the specs of my yard:

- 1/4 acre lot, on which rests a 4,000 sq ft home
- walled on 3 sides in the backyard
- a rock retaining wall in the backyard the same length as the house itself
- flower beds around each corner of the house
- then, your standard sidewalk in the front
- and, another sidewalk leading from the driveway to the front of the house

Pretty normal for your average 4,000 sq ft home and 1/4 acre lot. I really needed 3 batteries complete this job. And, they want -80 for an additional battery? No way!

For that much money, I'm tempted to make a DIY rechargeable battery pack made from Sanyo Eneloops. If you wait for a good deal, you can get AA Eneloops for each. To get 18v, you would need 15 AA cells (1.2v x 15 = 18v) and connect them serially. This would yield an amazing 2000mah for only !

And, these Eneloops won't "leak energy" the way all other batteries do. If you don't know about Eneloops, educate yourself (Google it!), you'll be glad you did.

Worx claims on their website that their Li-ion battery is 3x the run time of the conventional battery? I call BS on that!! I know Li-ions need a few charge/discharge cycles to reach their full capacity but I doubt it will triple its current capacity. I'll wait and give them the benefit of the doubt but I may end up building my own Eneloop-powered battery pack if it fails to live up to its claim (which seems like a high possibility at this point). If anyone is interested in this DIY, please leave a comment and I'll take the extra time to document the process and post it online.

Again, there is no reason for Worx to be giving us such weak batteries. I docked a whopping 2 stars for this because the battery is such an important component of the overall product, without it working well, you can't use the product at all!

Bad Battery - Delivev - Austin, TX USA
Good trimmer, lousy battery. Exactly two months after I bought this from Amazon, the battery is kaput. This seems to be a common problem and the Worx customer service is designed to make returning it or getting a replacement battery an expensive and time consuming operation. Buy the cheapest trimmer at Wal-Mart and throw it away when it no longer works and you'll still be money ahead rather than buying this piece of garbage,

Best battery-operated string trimmer around - Robert H. Brown -
I bought this trimmer 2 months ago to replace two, dead Black and Decker battery-powered trimmers. Along with it I purchased an extra battery and extra spools of string. I live in Arizona and consequently don't trim very often, but when I do, it's a lot. The Worx trimmer is far and away better than the Black and Decker, both in ability to trim and in battery life. It makes short work of all the stuff that's growing wild around here, and I rarely have to switch to the second battery. It's also easy to handle, and has a nice edging feature which, if you have a real lawn (something that's rare here), it will trim edges nicely. Bottom line: If you need a battery powered trimmer for small- to medium-sized jobs, this is the one you want. Just buy it, you won't be disappointed.
